Trend of the Week: Bright Bottoms!

I just bought a pair of coral jeans and a pair of coral shorts, so I've been looking at different ways to style them. Bright colored pants and jeans are everywhere right now, so I thought i would share a few of my favorite looks with you!

You may remember my purple jeans from THIS post...

Can't wait to share how I've paired my new purchases with fun tops this Summer!

Polka-dot Skirt Re-fashion

I found this skirt recently at Goodwill, and I loved the orange/pink color combo...only a couple of challenges...
It was a size 16...and it was ankle-length.
But I had a vision...
Kate Spade skirt

You can see that it was just a tiny bit too big (sorry again for the weird picture, but wanted you to get the full effect). Nice, huh?
So I turned it inside out and pinned, just like I did for THIS skirt (except I pinned only once, along the back seam instead of the sides (didn't want to lose the pockets), and then sewed/cut it down to size. This time I had to cut some length off and re-hem it as well. Only a small problem...since there was no zipper and I took up a lot of the elastic in the waist, I had to keep it a little loose to fit over my hips. I had an idea though...use the button tabs from the jacket...yes, it came with a jacket.
I mean, was whoever bought this outfit trying their best to look like a clown?? Because I'm pretty sure it worked.
I removed the buttons and pulled out the tab...and bummer...it was uncovered elastic in the middle.
So I cut out the elastic and sewed the two fabric pieces together. Then I sewed the two buttons onto the back of the skirt and attached the piece I sewed together. I made sure to space the buttons a little closer together than the total length of the piece so that it would gather the waist enough to make it tight.
Here is one way to wear it...
Yikes...someone's legs need to be introduced to the sun...
Or minus the belt/shoes/sweater for a lighter feel...
I am so happy that I kept the pockets!

What I've Been Up To...

I don't have a "Trendy Tuesday" post today because I've been a little busy! Check out what fun stuff I have been up to at my other blog: www.midsouthstagers.blogspot.com!
Hint...it involves a very fashionable firesuit and meeting my favorite band!

Easy Dress and Boots

When: A Wednesday
Where: A visit with a friend/meetings

It has been kind of chilly here, so out came my boots!

This dress has a cute little braided belt. If I wanted to spice it up I could definitely go for a brighter belt instead.

This was super comfortable...I kind of want to wear a dress and boots every day!
Happy Friday the 13th everybody!!

Where did it come from?
Dress: Sears, on clearance. $9.99
Boots: Target, Fall 2010. $35

Trend of the Week: Lovely Lace!

Spring is a great time to sport a delicate look like lace, and there are several ways to spice it up this season!
Lace skirt with a structured top:

A neutral sweater with a shorter skirt for a more casual look:

Love these cute lace shorts with a bright flowy top and neutral ankle boots!

Beautiful lace top with bright yellow skirt:

this pretty pink lace dress would be great for a wedding brunch:

I love the black contrasting trim on this blush dress...could go for day or night!

Are you wearing lace this Spring? I can't wait to try it out!!

Re-Styled Striped Pencil Skirt

I found this skirt while thrifting, and thought it had potential. It was a large, so obviously I was going to need to alter it.
It was originally from Express...do y'all remember when they had those tags? It's got to be at least 15 years old! Which makes me feel really old.
So, I tried it on inside out, pulled the waist up (since I wanted a high-waisted style), and pinned along both sides to get the fit I wanted. (I know this pic is weird...sorry)
Then, I just sewed along where I had pinned (twice to make sure it was secure), then trimmed off the excess.(This is not how a professional would do it, but it totally worked for me!)
It literally took 5 minutes. I quickly put on a cute top/belt/shoes with it to show you the "after".
You could also make it more casual with flats and just a white tee...
Or you could pair it with some cute black tights and boots for winter!

I love it and the fact that it is stretchy and comfy is a huge plus, considering most pencil skirts are not exactly made for comfort! I can't wait to wear it!!

DIY Chain Bracelet

I am by no means a jewelry maker, but when I was in JoAnn's the other day I walked by the jewelry-making section and saw lots of clearance stickers. So of course I stopped.
First, I saw these:
A 12" gold chain for 97 cents (I think it's supposed to be for a DIY purse strap). These clasps (also for a purse strap...are there lots of people that make their own purses??) were $2.99 for 2, but I had a 40% off a regular-priced item coupon, so it they were only $1.50.
Then I walked around to the ribbons for some inspiration and picked up this lovely mint color:
It was $1.99 for 18 feet.
I attached the clasp and then kind of wove the ribbon through each chain. Then I came back through with the ribbon and looped it around each chain.
I just tied the two ends of the ribbon together at the end
It was so easy! I did it during "Restaurant Impossible". Do y'all watch that show? You should...it's so good!

Loving my new bracelet, especially because the grand total was $4.50...and that doesn't count the fact that I only used about 2 of the 18 yards of ribbon and only one of the two clasps! Not bad!
